Cliff's Behind the Scenes Report on the Cliff's List Seminar
The Seminar turned out to be a huge success, well beyond my expectations. I think you will be reading a lot about it in the next little while. I also think that the DVDs will be a massive success - they will include a lot of material that was filmed behind the scenes at the hotel and at the party so everyone who was there will also want to see the DVDs.
There were a lot of last minute developments and changes to the schedule. Stephen (PlayboyLA) and Mike (Sickboy) had to cancel. Brian had to cancel. Thundercat cancelled, and TD let me know that Papa wasn't able to make it either. , Dimitri & Vincent, & Bart Baggett had to cancel. Other no shows included Mark B., Swinggcat, David Van Arrick, & Greg from Seductionpro.com.
On the other hand, DJ from Mysterymethod.com showed up and spoke, & Dave M. from insiderinternetdating.com also spoke. Adam Gilad from net2bed.com showed up with his 14 year old son (who went to a party recently and made out with 9 girls in one night recently), as did Herbal and Craig (who got on stage but who didn't want to be filmed). Juggler gave a presentation that was not filmed either (he and Craig were the only ones who did not want to be taped).
The schedule for the seminar only got finalized midday on the Thursday before. There were some glitches but in the end everything worked out. I had had an inspiration to have William (Big G from the Montreal Lair) host the event and he did a spectacular job. He added a fun, loose personality to the event in an outstanding professional manner, and, as someone from the community, he asked the right questions at the right time, kept things moving and I just can't say enough about how fantastic he was.
One of the highlights of the weekend for me was being out on Thursday night with a number of the guys. We went out to Cafe L'Eclusiers in Old Montreal and, by observation, I was given a real education by Brent, who moved through the crowd with an incredible energy, talking to women one after the other and showing why he is one of the best.
I had a few stresses - the first of which was the badges and hand outs didn't arrive until about 820-825 a.m. on Friday morning and a number of the badges somehow got lost on the way over. Between getting the release forms signed and printing out missing badges (as well as cutting up all of them as they were printed 4 to a sheet and they hadn't been cut before arriving at the hotel), the seminar start got delayed 45 minutes. We managed to pick up time as Patty only used about a half hour for her presentation which was mostly on body language. She used one of her dance students (the attractive Fanny) to help her demonstrate some body language and, while what she showed was simple, down to earth, practical and usable, you needed to hose down the room to cool it off after. It sizzled.
Another potential problem was from feminists who read the articles in the press (there was an article in the Montreal Gazette that got carried on the wire across Canada, and an article in the Montreal Mirror). Already on Friday there were posters plastered all over St.Laurent Boulevard denouncing the seminar and inciting women to protest the Cliff's List Seminar as being demeaning to women. This was pretty ignorant to start with - these posters went up without anyone having heard any part of the seminar, spoken to me, or anything. Tried, convicted and sentenced even though the accused wasn't there. Fortunately no one showed up to protest; the posters were all anonymous, with not a person or an organization mentioned as being the place to contact and no one claiming to be behind the call to arms.
Friday night a large group of us went to the Shed for dinner and afterwards we attended the party that was put on primarily for the seminar attendees. I had been told that about 100 models were supposed to be in attendance. Those who were there probably think that a lot of them weren't there - but I found out after that someone had forgotten to make sure these were "single" models and many came with their boyfriends. The modeling agency set
up a display at the party (there were also areas set aside for martial arts & hip hop/breakdancing demonstrations, as well as semi-nude models in a body painting exhibit) and I understand many of the attendees had their pictures taken with the models at the kiosk that was set up for that by the modeling agency.
Saturday night I ended up with a smaller group on St. Denis Boulevard which was closed off for a street event as part of the Just For Laughs Festival. We ended up in a neighbourhood Italian restaurant that was nothing special, and then after drifted over to St. Laurent Boulevard to join Mystery, Style, Craig, and many others in a Spanish tapas restaurant. I was pretty burned out that evening and ended up drifting over to Shed with Cesare Cardinali, had a drink but was dozing at the table so I went home right after.
During the weekend there were a few rough moments. First was making sure that all the speakers arrived in time to do their speeches. Will left around noon on Thursday from New Jersey (normally a simple flight that should take 1-1.5 hours) and only got in the afternoon on Friday as his flight kept getting cancelled and delayed. A guru master gave David Shade a hard time with some questions during his presentation which was the only rough spot I know about that happened during all the speeches of the event (other than the guru master's girlfriend Ghita's inappropriate questioning of Savoy of what he rated her on the scale of 1-10 - no one is going to learn more about being successful with women from that discussion and Savoy was adept and correct to basically dismiss her question and move on).
I did have some worries about the threesome panel. My intention was to have 5 or 6 people on the panel, with 9 potential participants on my list. One by one they withdrew for different reasons (although I probably should have asked Zan and/or Will who may have been willing to go on but I was having so much difficulty getting the remaining panelists lined up that I didn't want to introduce a new variable into the equation) and it seemed that there would only be two guys at the last minute. But I put the three participants together in the hallway outside the seminar room and they spoke with each other and got to know each other better which I think made a difference on stage. There was no fighting or heavy disputes despite the fact that all three have extremely divergent approaches to the subject matter.
The speakers were truly outstanding. I had cautioned all of them that David DeAngelo's group typically edit out a good portion of the filming that they do and, since each speaker was only up there for a maximum of an hour, that they should try and make good use of their time with tight, well prepared material so that as little as possible will be edited out. David D remarked to me that he didn't know what I said to the speakers to get them to tighten their presentations, but it worked.

For those of you who missed Cliff’s Seduction Seminar, I must emphasize that you really missed a great time. Of course, I must advise you to get the DVDs as soon as they are released so that you can absorb this great information. However, beyond the lectures, there were awesome interactions with fellow PUAs and some leaders in the community. A lot of the brethren went into the field to practice our thing. Others simply hung out to socialize. All of the presenters were good but there were several stand-outs. Mystery had a very comprehensive presentation that was delineated in a very practical context. He was definitely the easiest to absorb material from. David Shade had two dynamite presentations but his delivery was a bit subdued on the first go-round (and a bit of heckling didn’t help matters). Doc delivered the basics in easily digested form. Style’s open format was engaging, but seemed to lack the focus of some of the other presenters. I appreciated Patty bringing the female perspective, but it seemed only tangentially PUA related. However, watching her wiggle around on stage with Fannie more than made up for it. In my humble armchair quarterback opinion, someone like Wendi Frisen might have brought a more pick-up-centric theme with a decidedly feminine approach ( I’m not sure if Wendi is on Cliff’s list, she was a regular on Mindlist before forming her own thing). There were others that also stood out. I liked Will’s "Urban PUA " approach representing another aspect of the club scene and touching on areas that few others addressed. Zan added some right-brain artistry to the otherwise left-brain technical event. And, of course, David DeAngelo was the whipped cream and cherry on top of the sundae. Those were the stand-outs, but all were good in their own way. After the first day of presentations, we got together at Café Shed for dinner. Initially, having only 3 hours sleep and one meal in the last 24 hours, my only focus was on building some energy by devouring a whole chicken. Afterwards, I joined a couple MTL Lair brothers at another table and began kino-ing the waitress. When I sat down, she asked if I would like anything. I answered in an intentionally low voice and she had to lean closer to hear me. I gently stroked her inner arm and asked for an espresso. She asked "tall or short" and I paused… still stroking her… before I decided. On a side note, an interesting technique for kino is something I learned a few years ago from a woman who teaches sexuality and massage. She used a French term to describe it and explained that it translates to "Spider Web" and relates to a very light touch where skin barely touches skin. I had previous success with that with a former girlfriend. Whenever she was mad at me and would lay on the bed facing away from me and refusing to talk, I would lightly circle a spot on her lower back in ever varying patterns (like the Borg on Star Trek… women will "adapt" to the same stroke… so unexpected variety is important). Eventually, she would whine, "stop" or "it’s too light." I would simply continue until she ripped her panties off and rolled over onto her back. Never failed. Anyway, I noticed that the waitress at the Shed came back to the table with greater frequency than before, and would bypass her other tables and beeline to us. She would fill a glass with water or ask if everything was okay or whatever… but each time she came near I would softly stroke her arm or back. Then, one time, she came over and I didn’t touch her. She stood there with this anticipatory look and finally I gave her a light tickle. I thought about closing her but, when there was a dispute regarding the invoice that she gave to one of the other PUA’s , I departed to leave him to work it with her and he did an email close on her. Nothing like teamwork! We hoofed it to the club and I went over to the part of the club where a nude model was having her body painted. I noticed a petite blonde watching the bodypainting and told her that she should go and get herself painted next. She laughed and said no. We bantered back and forth, all the while I had my arm around her and stroking her back. No resistance to the kino… even when I escalated it to "dangerous" levels. Just as I was about to do a kiss close, the DJ suddenly came over from behind the turntable and said, "Hey, are you trying to pick up my wife?" WHOOPS! I played it off, saying, "I’m trying to convince her to take her clothes off and get her body painted, but and she keeps saying ‘no.’ Maybe you can help me convince her." He laughed and began to play along. After having a drink and attempting to sarge the bartender (who was too busy taking drink orders) I decided to try again… and saw a model with no sign of a wedding ring. As I approached, she had her back to me… I opened her with a touch… ran the tip of my finger from inside her elbow, swiftly and smoothly down to the palm of her hand, and then up to her wrist. We spoke in close proximity since it was so loud and I gradually but methodically ramped up the kino , stroking her forearms… her upper arms… her back, neck and arms… stroking the sides of her face, holding my lips close to her and breathing across her neck… and there was no resistance at all. It was an easy number close with the promise that we should get together after the party. That sounded great, but my increasing tiredness… exacerbated by the thick cigarette smoke in the club… led me to choose sleep over what might have been a delightful tryst. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have mainlined a few cans of Red Bull and waited up for her… As the party continued, I took a break to observe the crowd and chat with a couple of the brethren. Then, I noticed a model that looked like Sandra Bullock. She was talking with another PUA so I patiently waited my turn. I said, "Oh, Miss Bullock, I’m your biggest fan." She laughed, saying she hears that all the time. I started with her doing very light and subtle kino with rapid acceleration. The number close was effortless. More walking around and observing when I noticed these three very short women I had to double-take to see if they weren’t young boys. They were all around 5’ or shorter… two looked very butch, the other feminine. Three lesbians maybe? I opened them and focused on the most butch looking one. I got some 411, such as the fact that they were from Idaho and sports enthusiasts, but before I got much farther the other two pulled the target away. I should have had a wing. D- OHH ! They spent the rest of the evening as a threesome… the "lipstick" one dancing suggestively while the two "macho" ones watched her. I mentioned to a couple other PUAs to see if they were interested in having a go at them but no one seemed to want to bite (no pun intended). I want back over to the DJ’s wife to tease her a little more. He looked over at me and nodded his head with a knowing smile and I began to speculate how open are these guys? Do they swing? Too bad David Shade wasn’t there to provide a couple pointers in that regard… it could have been "chicken on rotisserie" time up in the club, LOL.
Funny, since during the seminar there were two sessions on threesomes (one with David Shade and the other with Steve Piccus and Toecutter joining him and the moderator). The common thread seemed to be that the PUAs prefer two-girl, one-guy threesomes. Most seemed to have adverse reaction to the idea of two guys and one woman doing the "chicken on the rotisserie" thing. LOL. Later into the party, the Sandra Bullock look-alike came over and introduced me to her male model friend. She asked if I found him gorgeous. I said, "I’m not gay, so I can’t tell if he is gorgeous or not." She laughed, "You don’t have to be gay to tell if a man is gorgeous." I said, I didn’t care about him, just about her. Seemed I inadvertently hurt his feelings, so she began supplicating him… doing a little sexy dance to try and lift his spirits. His spirits weren’t the only thing that started to lift, however… and thoughts of "chicken on rotisserie" popped up again in my mind. Earlier, I had noticed this cute blonde with a dude… and it was clear she wanted to dance (moving subtly to the music and eyeballing him) but he stood as still as a statue. I considered approaching her (what was it with couples that night?) but I decided it wouldn’t be sporting to take candy away from a baby. However, a couple other PUAs had no difficulty with opening her… and to my surprise, her date turned tail and ran away. Yow! I thought to myself, I shouldn’t have been so overly sensitive of the guy’s feelings… he just walks away when strange men surround his woman. I’m not sure how their convo went, but they waved me over and introduced me, and then ejected. I started convo with her… also using the kino… light "spider web" touches up her spine and neck. She was fine with (or, at least, tolerated) that until I put my foot in my mouth I made a bad pun she said her name was Hollie and I said, "Like Hollywood… but would Hollie ?" I could tell by her facial expressions that comment went over like the Hindenberg. She gingerly removed my fingers from her neck and said she needed to go and find the guy who ran off when the PUAs came over.
Made note to self to refrain from bad humor when sarging. ;-) There is tons more detail from the party and from the event in general. I will cut it short. I missed the final dinner on the last night of the event. I got a taxi driver who said he knew where Nil Bleu was... then after driving in circles radioed his dispatcher... then dropped me off in the wrong location. I walked for over ½ hour (asked three cops if they knew the restaurant but they said they never heard of it). Realizing I had probably missed the meal, I called it a night. All in all, however, I will reiterate that this event was truly awesome and hats off to Cliff, David D., William and the video crew for a weekend beyond comparison. Returning home, I continued to mentally assimilate everything that was covered and my current goal is to incorporate and adapt the knowledge. Based on a lunchtime chat with Steve Piccus regarding metaphysics and such, I dug out some old notes on " Thoughtballs " that Jobet Claudio and I had put together many years ago and plan to incorporate more of the metaphysical in my sarging. Had a chance to try it out at the local cybercafé where in the past I have had difficulty opening HBs . In the "Post Seminar" era, however, I did an effortless open and number close with a HB9 personal trainer and repeated that success at the supermercado with a local caterer. Next on my agenda, put the Mystery Method into action… working on that six hour countdown while laying down tons of LMR defense...

In your experience with meeting guys that were good looking, is it a disadvantage to have game when sarging an hb? Jlaix recently mentioned that if you are good looking and apply seduction tactics it would work against you. I was wondering if something like SS, which is a bit deeper than some of the other methods, would that work against a good looking guy if he were to use it? RJ had said once all a good looking guy needs is to establish a connection and that's it whereas most others need to use a lot more tactics for seduction to be successful.
Clifford's Comment This is really a fairly simple situation and it relates to every guy, good looking or not. Regardless of what you are doing or using, whether it is SS, MM, direct, indirect, etc., the whole key is for you to do it in a way that is congruent with you and which reflects a strong skill and/or understanding of what it is you are doing and who you are. So, for example, if you are good looking and you use SS but you haven't been able to find the right way to use it for yourself, you shouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work. If, however, you mastered it for yourself - meaning that, probably through trial and error, you figured out all the little subtle elements that have to come together and be done right FOR IT TO WORK FOR YOU - then it will work. So that if you find that using too many embedded commands makes your conversation sound forced and then you toned it down from, say using them 40% of the time to 15%, then you find that works, and then if you adjusted your tonality, and then you adjusted your kino, etc. etc.
So it is not really a question of how good looking you are, but of how integrated you have made the skill set you are using. At least, that's my opinion. I think you can find all kinds of guys using things that don't work - and you will also find a lot of guys using the same things and they do work because they have found out how to use them correctly for them.
You need to find what works for you, what you are comfortable with (or uncomfortable with, if that's what you need), and get good at that. Pretty much like anything else you want to get good at.

Melbourne Lair: The place, an open shopping center in the heart of the city. I sit down at the food court and wait for familiar faces to arrive. I picked the location of this months meeting of the Melbourne Lair, Its great to have it in an informal place like a food court, sets a nice relaxing mood. Once everybody arrives we push some tables together and start the meeting. We discuss peoples sticking points and offer suggestions, we tell stories of crash and burns and success stories. We just shoot the sh*t, it f*cking great to meet up with like minded people. While telling someone my smurf routine, I see two guys get up from the table and start walking away, I glance back later to see them sitting with a girl, these guys are approach machines.
The meeting goes on way too f*cking long, everybody's got a story to tell, advice to offer, we could talk to each other for days. I feel like this is Ocean's 11 and we are planning the big heist. There is the leader, he started the group. The guru, he's an encyclopedia of info. There is the joker, he can't stop negging and teasing everyone; f*cking Canadians. There's the approach machines, they can't follow the conversation because they are too busy following the nearest piece of ass. There is the SSer, the grease boy and of course Brad Pitt. If you are opening groups (or sets: 2-sets, 3-sets, mixed sets, etc) of people with the 3 second rule by stacking indirect openers (including false opinion openers), false time constraining (discovered by Style), demonstrating a higher value to your romantic interest’s peer group with high octane DHVs while she obliquely observes (locking her into her own set with a prop), and simultaneously performing false disqualifiers (which include negs) on her with the intension of disarming her peergroup and then isolating her to rebuild her self-esteem once you have enough IOIs (indicators of interest) so you may share in a comfort and trust building effort and then build in a jealousy subplot to solidify her attraction for you, you are using The Mystery Method.
If instead you are only approaching women who are alone, you are greatly limiting your options and quite likely alienating your target's friends. I got I out of that mini-seminar last night. Like I was mentioning,
I think that part of my problem with approach anxiety is not knowing
what to say. Now that I have the formula for creating some killer stories, that shouldn’t be much of a problem anymore. I’ve already enlisted the services of my HB8.5 friend to do the exercise that we
did last night on some of my other stories.
Thanks again to DJ for a wonderful seminar and to Jeff for being a
gracious host. I want to thank DJ for the awesome seminar and
fieldwork. It was a slow night but we were still able to get sets
and watching DJ in set was amazing, he was able to re-open sets that I thought were long gone. I’ll never forget how he gamed these 2 young, drunk girls at the pizza place after the set died on us with the girls saying they had to go to the bathroom and he was tired as hell and didn’t want to do it, yet he still owned them to show us what’s possible! And from the Miami seminar I only took the mini-workshop on Monday, but that small part was very enlightening. DJ was a really good instructor, that wasn’t focused strictly on nightclub game; which was a relief, because these skills should prepare you for the 95% of your life that you don’t spend in a nightclub. He showed us how we should be using stories to (subtly and not-so-sublty) convey things about ourselves. As a bonus, Mystery showed up and did a demonstration on properly approaching women in bars and clubs, body language, and proper pacing and tonality of your language. It was really good stuff.
