Dwacon (http://www.cafepress.com/dwacon) : It had been almost a year since I had been to the local pub -- and I was pleasantly surprised to see most of the guys and old married women had quit and the new staff was about 50% hot females. I have been generally flirting with them all, telling them, "Nancy is my #1 favorite, Jane is #2, Doris is #3... but when we move to Utah and they are my wives, YOU can come and be our concubine." They all responded positively -- most with IOI's, Kino and some buying me drinks (one brought a dessert -- flourless chocolate waffle with ice cream -- on the house).

Over subsequent visits, noticed increased Kino from all the girls on staff. One visit, the hostess left her post at the front door and came to chat with me at the bar. When I shook her hand, she put it around her back and leaned into me, rubbing my back with her fingertips. The bartender, a saucy blonde who looks like she just crawled from between the sheets, noticed this and came over from behind the bar to "subtly" rub her breasts against me, giving me what can only be described as "viagra eyes."

She had me from that point forward, so I decided to work on closing her and ignoring the others. I tried some David Deida style energy transfer... focusing my energy on her ass and crotch. She started rubbing her ass a lot, especially whenever she had her back to me. She eventually came over from behind the bar and hugged me from behind (???), kissing the back of my neck, and giving me a very seductive look as she walked away. Despite all of this, I couldn't number close. D-OHH !!!

As I was leaving, the hostess was apparently jealous and left her post to walk me outside to my car, pouring on the Kino and suggesting she was very light and I could easily pick her up and toss her onto my bed. A tempting thought... but foolishly I was mentally focused on how to break that last bit of resistance from the saucy blonde bartender (SBB) and passed on hooking up with the hostess. Hindsight being 20/20 -- BIG MISTAKE!!!

On the subsequent visit, I focused exclusively on SBB, doing the David Deida energy bounce. She started turning a few shades of red and got a little standoffish. Maybe I was overdoing it? So, I ignored her for a bit, focusing on one of the other girls that were giving me Kino like crazy -- so the SBB saw this and came over to give me a big hug and kiss. She mentioned she was done for the day and going home. Before I could suggest the two of us heading out together, she literally ran away. HUH ???????

I finished my drink and hit the head. When I exited the pub, she was outside. It seemed she was waiting for me, so I walked over and assumed it would be a piece-of-cake F-close... but suddenly felt a lot of negative energy coming off her. It seemed she was maybe having pre-buyer's remorse (if there is such a thing) or perhaps psyching herself out of hooking up. Or, maybe it was just butterflies/nerves. I chatted for a few seconds to try and reestablish connection, but she got more and more tense and monosyllabic so I jetted.

I went back the following week and she literally hid on the other side of the bar. Then, when I figured "que sera, que sera" and figured I'd just have a quick beer and exit, she suddenly snuck up behind me and ran her fingernails down the back of my shirt. She followed that up with a hug and said she wanted to put me in a full nelson and drag me off. I replied, "I'm down with that." I got IOI's from her the rest of the evening, and the other bartender (a tall Brazilian HB10) got so jealous she was pouting and stomping her foot.

When I was ready to eject, SBB literally ran off and hid again. What an oddball! One moment she's kino-ing me, the next, she's hiding and peeking around corners. Too weird. Think maybe I'll write that place off for the rest of this year and try another venue.

You're doing really good work just by busting her chops and teasing her the right way. Escalating sexual tension is absolutely necessary. Most guys won't go this far in fear of "scaring her off" or "offending her." They don't realize that what women want most is a guy that can come from a place of power.

Ross: Carlos, I like this post of yours, some good points. You are right, many guys are afraid of escalating.

I've also found, with many students, it isn't fear as much as the feeling that THEY are doing something wrong or bad. In this case, it isn't fear of getting rejected, but shame. It can be, in my experience with students, as big an interruption as fear.

Now, for guys with good attitudes on sex, I know that seems absurd, but as one teacher to another, I urge you to have a look at it. In this case, guys need to work on their beliefs about sex, and about women enjoying getting sexual.

Also, some guys are so inexperienced, they don't have a good structure for going to the next step; it's not that they are afraid to escalate, they simply don't know what to do next in order to make that happen. So they wait passively for the woman to do it and BOOM: there goes another good seduction down the drain.

In that case, guys need some good ways to transition to more sexual themes, vibes, energy before they start ripping off a woman's clothes; they also have to learn how to test/touch for comfort and a BIT of arousal(just a bit) early on, so they don't go from NO touching to sudden sexually lunging at her!

My point: fear is a big stopper. So is shame. So is plain just not knowing what to do. We want to be careful not to be too reductionist; when working with students, realize that over a broad range you will see basic patterns emerging when they are stuck and FEAR is a big one, but not the only one.

> Carlos: Yet that's what countless guys are doing day after day when they find themselves confronted with the situation that this reader is experiencing. First of all, most guys fear putting themselves up for judgment in front of a woman. This is commonly called the "approach." Those do-or-die 60 seconds of sheer terror where most guys find that running naked through a minefield in downtown Baghdad is preferable to walking up to a woman and saying "hello."

Ross: This is so true. I have had students who were US Special Forces who would rather go into combat than approach a hot woman, or even an average one. It's funny, because, physically speaking, I'm not very adventurous; I wouldn't bungee jump if it meant an entire 6 months with the UCLA Women's Volleyball team as my private harem. Ok...maybe a SMALL bungee jump.

Fear is funny, because fear is VERY real, subjectively, for each person.

Fear can also be taken apart and neutralized:

1. Cognitively: change the beliefs and meaning you attach to approaching from desperately trying to win or please to having fun seeing what she is like and what you can learn.

2. Physiologically: learn to control your breathing. Deep, abdominal breathing will disrupt virtually ANY fear state.

3. Energetically: energy is NOT some useless New Age crap. Vibe and energy are VERY practical and very real. Learning to recognize and control your body's major energetic flows can make a HUGE, HUGE leap.

4. Symbolically: learning to create right brain imagery that links to the limbic system and shuts off the fight flight.

All of these methods work; within each guy , which one will have the most leverage is a matter of experiment.

> Carlos: They fear that if the woman is not interested in them, this translates into their worth as a man. Most guys put a lot of stock in what women think of them, so the thought of getting turned down after you put your ego out there on the line is more than most can bear. We fear being turned down when our self-confidence is not strong enough to handle this kind of rejection.

Ross: Yes. Also, just plain fear of the unknown; I think sometimes if a guy 100% KNEW he'd be rejected, he might find it easier than not knowing! Being comfortable with the unknown is a huge piece. I call it "acceptance confidence" as opposed to "performance confidence".

Performance confidence revolves around certainty that you can do something well because you have plenty of previous experiences being successful. It's a prediction of success based on lots of past successful performances.

Acceptance confidence is different; it says that you can accept not knowing and be ok with whatever happens because you believe you can always learn and improve.

Newbies need a different mix of acceptance and performance confidence; a lot of acceptance and just a bit of performance confidence. That's why I specifically show how to structure beliefs and practices for building more acceptance confidence.

> Carlos: Geez, even this guy can't move forward when he KNOWS she wants him! And I'm not belittling his experience ONE BIT because I've BEEN THERE. I know what it's like to sit in that torture of knowing you HAVE to act, but you just can't find a way to DO IT. It's like your internal computer just totally locked up. Now, the second kind of fear is the one that his letter references directly: The Fear of SUCCESS. When you can overcome your fear of taking action because of possible rejection, most guys then fall victim to the next fear of - WHAT THE HECK DO I DO NOW? What if - gasp - I get what I WANT?

Ross: It's really fear of the unknown and an unfair expectation that you know everything before you leap!

This Week ¹s Tip

Back in March 2003, a couple of months after I started writing the NLP tip, I wrote an article about overcoming hesitation, and mentioned a technique I use with my clients called The Pizzawalk. Even though the tips only went out to 300 people at that time, there was an incredible response. Many people did Pizzawalk¹s then emailed me to let me know how amazing the experience had been for them. This approach has become a favourite on training courses & in corporate consulting alike (many of my clients have reported astonishing changes in their lives after doing a few Pizzawalks). Today, this tip goes to nearly 10,000 people, so I¹ve decided that it's time for everyone to learn about this approach. It is incredibly powerful for eliminating hesitation, fear of failure & rejection, takes only moments to do, & can be practiced almost anywhere. So, without further ado, The Pizzawalk

He who hesitates waits

As Richard Bandler, (bona-fide genius & co-developer of NLP) says "He who hesitates waits & waits & waits." Almost everyone has situations where you would like to do something, but find yourself hesitating. I¹ve heard Bandler describe hesitation as one of the main barriers to learning, & he focuses a great deal of time & energy on helping people to overcome it.

Would you like fries with that

One day in London, I was on the tube on the way to train some telesales people, helping them to overcome "sales call reluctance" (ie. not wanting to pick up the telephone & dial.). I was reading the book Change (by Watzlawick, Weakland & Fisch) & came across a story describing how Watzlawick helped a student who had been unable to complete his thesis due to anxiety. He told the student "Go into three shops over the next week & make an absurd request." The student did so, reported a shift in attitude, & finished their thesis shortly thereafter. I loved the idea, & thought it might be useful with the reluctant telesales team, but I knew that I couldn¹t ask them to do something I wasn¹t willing to do myself. I said to myself "You have to do this", & as soon as I got off the tube, I went into a well-known fast-food hamburger joint outside the station. I joined the queue, looking around at the other customers. My heart was pounding like a drum; even though I knew rationally that I was in no danger, my neurology was responding as though I were about to stick up a bank.

When I got to the counter, I looked at the person behind it &, with a straight face, asked for a ham & pineapple pizza. She looked confused and said "What?" I repeated my request. She said "We don¹t sell those." "This is a Chinese restaurant isn't it?" I replied. She said no, I said thanks anyway and left. I felt like I had just knocked out Mike Tyson. I felt invincible!

Please, before you send me loads of email saying how childish this is, & how it isn¹t really NLP - I know. But the result was amazing. In the days following, I did several similar acts. Each time, my physical response was diminished, but in other areas of my life, the opposite happened. I started to exhibit less hesitation and more wanton ego for it than ever before!

Thrilled with my success, I invited the telesales people to do similar absurd acts, and they reported similar liberating results. I knew I was onto something.

The Pizza-walk Experience

A few years ago, I became interested in Tony Robbins & went to one of his weekends, eagerly anticipating the fire-walking, which I had heard so much about. I was really looking forward to it, and Robbins did a great job of building up the anticipation, but when the time came, I found it impossible to actually believe that walking on the hot coals was in any way dangerous. As a result, walking across them didn't have much impact on me as a metaphor for overcoming fears in other areas of my life (though I know it really works for some people.)

By comparison, The Pizza-walk Experience costs nothing, can be done virtually anywhere, and is incredibly powerful. So

1) Identify a few of the areas in your life where you hesitate and would like to just go for it.

2) Choose a commercial premises (eg. shop, restaurant, petrol station) and make an absurd request (ie. ask for something they definitely don't sell) while keeping a straight face. Be polite, safe and non-threatening.

3) Repeat twice more in the course of a week.

4) Look forward to the situations where in the past you would have hesitated, and enjoy your new responses.

One of my clients used to have difficulties asking women out on dates. I sent him out to a burger joint to get some Italian food. Within the week he had a date and today has a full diary [2005 update he's moved to Australia & is engaged to be married!]. This stuff works!

For those of you who are worried about the person behind the counter, in all the times I've done this, their response has been anywhere from bemused to very amused, but not frightened. The key is for you to be non-threatening and polite (ideally coming across as a bit confused). For those of you who are thinking this is pointless, foolish or humiliating you probably need this more than most.

Why does this work?

Our central nervous system is set up to protect us from dangerous situations. Many of us have been heavily conditioned against making mistakes (by teachers, parents, peers etc.) and code mistakes as dangerous. Yet making mistakes is an incredibly important part of learning, growing and exploring. A willingness to make mistakes is an absolute must for anyone who wishes to become skilled at NLP (with me, I used to be almost phobic of making mistakes, but no more). The Pizza-walk Experience seems to help you eliminate this unhelpful response. There are lots of other NLP techniques which can reduce hesitation & increase "go for it", but this one's the easiest & quickest to communicate in writing. By the way, obviously there are times when it's useful to hesitate (eg. when about to step into a busy street). Keep those.

More advanced

This is also great for playing with beliefs around money. I was in Egypt a couple of years back, and found that you are expected to haggle over the prices of items in shops - it's a cultural norm. When I returned to the UK, I went into a large DIY shop, picked up £300 worth of expensive equipment and offered them £40 for it. Once again, my neurology responded as though I was in a dangerous situation, even though I was perfectly safe. By doing this, though, I was able to start changing my beliefs around money (Stuart Wilde's book The Trick to Money is Having Some is where I got this idea).

Next time

Please send this tip on to as many people as possible. People in our society are way too afraid of looking silly, and they deserve to be liberated from this terrible affliction. This will help them to have more of what they want in their lives.

The key with this is to DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The results of this will amaze you, and the sooner you start, the sooner you can start reaping the benefits. Remember, reading about it just isn't the same as when you do it. Be safe, be considerate, have lots of fun and amaze yourself.

I like this guy's advice; it's like my Manny Martian exercise (which so many people have taken out of context as being about running a successful pick-up, when the whole point is just to get guys over their fear by having them do something ridiculous!).

> Carlos: I really thought about that, and then I remembered this line I heard in a movie that finally kicked my butt off the couch and into gear: "The dreams of youth are the regrets of maturity." Whoah. That's an eye-opener . Think about that one for a minute, please. Then I went through a little mind exercise that I call the "Whammy." It goes like this: I imagined myself as an old man sitting in my wheelchair in the old folks home. I really imagined this scene so vividly I could even smell the disinfectant they used on the gray linoleum tile of the hallway as I rolled along to the TV room where I could eat my daily cup of pudding. And I sat there looking back on my life, wondering if there was anything I had done that I regretted. Nope. But I sure regretted a lot of things I DIDN'T do. I could feel that horrible sinking sensation in my gut when I thought about all the opportunities I passed up, mostly because of fear. What I wouldn't GIVE for a second chance to go back and do it again ... POOF! Here I am. I got my wish! Now I CAN go do them before it's too late. Now, in reality, I have no intention of spending my last days looking back like that, but it could turn out this way. I might not get the opportunity to save the planet by blowing up an asteroid or something, or die in glorious combat in the Coliseum. I might end up in a "retirement community" somewhere. So be it. I just don't want to give up living life, or have to settle for living on old memories of what was. And when the end draws near, I don't want to look back on a long list of things I COULD have done but talked myself out of. I had to change the meaning of these events in such a DRASTIC and RADICAL way that I found the motivation to ACT. It literally had to be such a POWERFUL experience that I would not be able to look back again and continue the same path. I had to act NOW.

Ross: Wow. Now THAT is a beautiful language pattern. I suggest using it on a hesitant chick. If any of you doubt the power of language to shift and move the imagination and emotions, look at that beautiful piece of writing from Carlos, and I'm not being sarcastic. That rocked! Beautiful. Starting off, I'd like to state that I'm not an expert PUA nor have I actively proceeded in the PUA life style, I have increased the number of women I've been with since the day I entered the community and now understand things like fashion female - male dynamics yada yada. All I say is that my life is now 100% better than it was before.

Putting that aside, I noticed that knowing this stuff and being able to manipulate them is great but also can be hazardous if used in the wrong context, the one of revenge and hurting someone. This realization came to me last night when a girlfriend of a person I know tried to qualify me - she failed, and then went on trying to amog me saying things like how I dress in a gay manner, and how I am this loser. In a cocky and funny way she was talking away, I just like looked at her as she was laughing by herself like a geek that tells a joke about math trying to understand what she was getting at. I was unreactive until she went on to talk about some family issues I probably had. That got to me as I love my parents and they are the reason I didn't commit suicide at one time at my life and you don't forget that help. She mentioned that she was a barwoman and talked about that shit. All of a sudden without any thought some words came out of my mouth, & everyone went quiet. I told her "Aren't barmaids supposed to be good looking?" She looked like somebody just blasted her out of space.

She started telling me her qualities and saying I was mean and shit and I really was. I admit it I was an asshole and a jerk. I was reactive, but I couldn't leave it at that. I had to destroy her completely and said to her with a smile "I was just asking a question," because I have a friend and transitioned to a story ....I wasn't talking about you. I think you're cool." It was a total mindfuck and I felt like a shit after words.

I was friendly and even explained to her some medical issues. She didn't seem attracted to me, she just tried to make fun of me in front of everybody. No problem there but then she went to family stuff that made me mad and I went off on her...

What I realized is that if you can't control your own inner self and emotions, you will never be an alpha male.

To be alpha is to control yourself. That is the essence. The rest is just cool things to say and do.

This has helped me in all my current interactions where I completely lost all neediness. I'm not going to do something wrong if I can control myself.

The Ultimate Attraction Strategy

Hey guys. How are ya. Dr Alex here to first of all give you the good news that the brand-spanking new Tao of Dating website is up and running. There's all kinds of goodies, samples and information for you, so swing on by and pay a visit.

So today I was talking with an old friend, and we were noticing something that a lot of the so-called pickup artists that we personally know have in common: they're deeply unhappy people. Now, most people on these forums don't know this, because what they see is the public persona, the guy who's "on" in the field, or even worse, the glowing reports they post for themselves on the internet. Between me and my friend, we've known these guys personally for over ten years, and we know the truth.

The truth, my friends, is that there's a lot of people out there looking for fulfillment outside of themselves. This could be in the form of women, material things, approval of friends, accolades, professional success, etc.

Now, I really want you to pay attention to the next sentence: There is nothing in the outside world that can bring you fulfillment on a sustained basis. NOTHING. Because fulfillment is an INTERNAL phenomenon. Fulfillment comes from the inside, so something from the outside -- the next hot date, the next conquest, the raft of phone numbers -- will never truly fulfill you.

You see, fulfillment only comes with being happy with yourself exactly as you are RIGHT NOW. Because you know what? There is no time when it's not right now. So if you're not happy with you right now, chances are you're not going to be happy with you five years from now. No number of babes you've bagged is going to fill that gaping hole of emptiness inside unless you decide that you're cool with who you are right now.

You may be thinking, "Well, last time I got a girlfriend, I was a lot happier than I was without her." Okay, but what happened after she was gone? Were you miserable all of a sudden? Because true fulfillment is like knowledge: nobody can take it away from you, because it's all the way inside. Once you have it, it's yours. If it can be taken away, it wasn't the genuine article in the first place.

Now, the good news: it's really easy to be happy with yourself. All you have to do is DECIDE. Decide right now that whoever you are, wherever you're standing, unshaven, smelly clothes, rip in your pants, mediocre job, no girl in sight, whatever, that it's okay. You're cool with it. You dig you. And you don't really need much at all to be fulfilled. You are content with the way things are exactly as they are right now. Sure, we're all for improvement and growth. And everywhere along the path of improvement and growth, you're cool with who you are at that moment.

And that, my friends, is the ultimate attraction strategy. It's called self-sufficiency. When you are truly comfortable in your own skin, truly happy to be who you are, you start to glow with this energy that women absolutely pick up on. And they are irresistibly drawn to you. It sounds all weird and woo-woo when I say it, but it's totally true. Those who know me well can tell you that I'm the furthest thing from all that fluffy, touchy-feely stuff. I'm interested in what works, and dammit, this works. And makes you feel like a billion bucks to boot. So, right now, I want you to close your eyes and imagine John Wayne (I know he played roles in movies, but I have it on good account that he was John Wayne in person, too). Can you imagine him rushing up to some hot babe to throw down some routine? Can you imagine him chasing down any woman? Can you imagine him doing some tricks to make a crowd like him? Can you imagine him all broken down and beat up that some girl won't call him back? I can't. What I CAN imagine is women just walking up to him as if they had no choice in the matter, thoroughly intrigued and attracted. That guy was a mountain unto himself, and women felt his presence, even when he didn't say a word or did a thing. Be the mountain, my friend. And they will come to you. And probably try to climb you at some point.

As an exercise to really feel this, internalize it and make it a part of your behavior, do this: whenever you have a second, waiting at a stoplight, standing in line for groceries, in the shower, wherever, say to yourself: "I have everything that I need", with a big emphasis on the 'everything.' It may seem weird at first, so keep on doing it till you really feel it, believe it and know it. 'Cause it's the truth my friend, and it will set you free. Melbourne Lair: The place, an open shopping center in the heart of the city. I sit down at the food court and wait for familiar faces to arrive. I picked the location of this months meeting of the Melbourne Lair, Its great to have it in an informal place like a food court, sets a nice relaxing mood. Once everybody arrives we push some tables together and start the meeting. We discuss peoples sticking points and offer suggestions, we tell stories of crash and burns and success stories. We just shoot the sh*t, it f*cking great to meet up with like minded people. While telling someone my smurf routine, I see two guys get up from the table and start walking away, I glance back later to see them sitting with a girl, these guys are approach machines.

The meeting goes on way too f*cking long, everybody's got a story to tell, advice to offer, we could talk to each other for days. I feel like this is Ocean's 11 and we are planning the big heist. There is the leader, he started the group. The guru, he's an encyclopedia of info. There is the joker, he can't stop negging and teasing everyone; f*cking Canadians. There's the approach machines, they can't follow the conversation because they are too busy following the nearest piece of ass. There is the SSer, the grease boy and of course Brad Pitt. We all exchange numbers before leaving and make plans for sarging during the week. If there is a Lair in your area, join it, if there isn't, start one of your own. You will not regret it.
