All of the things that we can see in the world around us as valuable and important in other people, all of them, are red herrings. They are falsehoods, they are shadows. They have to be, because of the very nature of how we perceive them, how we put them together as ideas in our heads, and also, because of what they fundamentally are.
Red herrings? Let me explain. Power is a red herring. Social value is a red herring. Congruence is a red herring. Confidence is a red herring. Status is a red herring. When I say that they are red herrings, I'm not saying they're not important factors in a social interaction. But they are red herrings inasmuch as if you chase them directly, you will never find them. You will fail. You cannot gain power by chasing power alone. You cannot gain social value by seeking it directly. If you strive for status, it will forever elude you. All you can ever achieve by working for such things, through a massive effort of willpower, is to train yourself to project an illusion of these things, all of which are incidental factors of something much deeper and more profound.
But before we examine what that factor is, let's just look for a second at why it is we believe these red herrings are so important, why we seek them and where they come from. To my mind, all these aspects of a social interaction have been elevated in our minds to the highest position of importance because they are the things you see successful people do in social situations.
Take Mystery. As I mentioned elsewhere, the guy has a dizzying intellect. He has mapped human interaction externally, and linked his findings and his model back to evolutionary psychology. Within the context of his method, he emphasizes factors like status, value and congruence as pivotal and fundamental facets of a pickup artist's success. Why? Because if you map the behaviour of a successful ladies' man from the outside, they are the factors that appear decisive. This approach predates Mystery. What Mystery has done is taken an external analysis of human interaction to an exhaustive level of detail. Everyone does this, myself included. I'll sometimes find myself, even now, looking at a natural player and thinking "Damn, that man is confident. He just doesn't give a shit. Wow."
But the problem with an external analysis of human behaviour, whether it is Mystery's model or a statistical analysis of psychological data, is that by its very nature the human animal is infinite in its external expressions of its internal state. You cannot even list all the different things that make a man attractive, because such a list would be infinite and infinitely varied from man to man, and dependent upon the unique tastes and perspectives of the women who interact with him.
All of these red herrings are externally visible. This is because they are symptomatic of attraction, and not causal. When we look at someone's behaviour, we are analyzing what we can see of them to give us clues to who they really are inside. This is an automatic response, it is how we monkeys size each other up. We are all so adept at creating a facade around us that if we all took each other at face value, evolution would favour only the greatest manipulators. This would mean that evolutionarily, we all would be card carrying psychopaths. We would be genetically hardwired so to be, and there would be no such thing as kindness or compassion, because to display such behaviour would be suicidal in a world peopled only by the profoundly selfish. But this isn't the world in which we live. Compassion is not necessarily dangerous. People are not necessarily selfish. Kindness can be a strength. Sometimes people are selfish. Sometimes they are not.
Something else, something more sophisticated, is going on under the surface. A huge factor in human social interaction is the search to find out what that deeper level is in the people we meet. This is obviously a massive factor in seduction, but only because it is a critically important factor in human interactions in general.
So we look to things like confidence, congruence, status and social value as clues to tell us something of the inner heart of a person. All of these things can, indeed, be massively unattractive. Confidence is unattractive if it is based upon an overweening ego. Congruence is unattractive if you are congruent with your cruelty. Status is unattractive if you hate the people who make up the social hierarchy underneath a person of status. Social value is unattractive if you are valuable to a detestable society.
But why do these things elude you when you seek them directly? It's very simple. They have no reality. They are concepts which we ascribe to external aspects of a person's behaviour. They are, quite simply, thoughts that you have about a person. Moreover, striving for power, status and value is a pastime as old as the human race, and perhaps older still. Everyone who believes they are not good enough does this. They always have, and they always will. So essentially, if you see someone directly seeking power or status, all that tells you about the person at a fundamental level is that they do not believe that they are good enough on their own.
That is the message that you send out, and we are all, men and women, genetically hardwired to be extremely sensitive to this message. It tells us more about the person in an instant than all the social value in the world can ever do. It tells us that they do not believe themselves worthy. They do not believe themselves complete. It tells us that there is a gaping hole inside them where their self-esteem should be. And that tells us that if we ally ourselves with that person, whether as a friend or as a lover, we are lashing ourselves to the mast of a sinking ship. Instantly, emotional alarm bells ring inside us, blaring out the message that we should get away, that we should disassociate ourselves from that person.
We experience these warning bells as revulsion. They repel us from someone. That is what it feels like to be unattracted to someone. That is where it comes from. That is why it exists as an evolutionary response.
So these things are red herrings. If you chase them, they will elude you, your friends and lovers will leave you and you will shatter yourself with loneliness and desperation. This sounds harsh, and most people do not sink to these extremes forever. But I do believe that the vast majority of people reading this will know exactly what I'm talking about from first hand experience. This is a trap that people have been falling into since the birth of humanity people have chased the things that they feel they lack only to find those things become an ever retreating horizon.
But then and you may all have experienced what I am about to describe every now and then you become more. Every now and then, when you're not noticing, perhaps when you are drunk, perhaps when you are among your very good friends or perhaps when you meet someone who just puts you completely at your ease, something happens inside you. You shift, in some unknown sense, into a different mode, a mode in which people look up to you. They actually really admire you. They aren't sucking up or begging for your approval, but they rate you. They respect you. You are valuable to them. They would help you out if they could, and they would consider it an honour so to do. You get attention from the opposite sex, and you just seem to know what to do with it. Nothing is awkward, and nothing is forced. You just feel chilled, and easy, and powerful. Your jokes are funny, and you're not feeling conscious of anyone else looking at you although you notice that you do get more attention. You just love it. You love that moment, the moment of existence. You exist in it, you live in it, and somehow it completes you.
I got this every now and then, back in the day before I knew anything of women or myself. Once in a while I'd just be 'on form'. Everything I said would work. It was so effortless, and so much fun. But I could never manufacture it. I could never reproduce it. And when I saw a woman who was, to my mind, out of my league, it would shake me. I'd become someone else. Someone worse. Someone less than I was. It happened all the time, and it happened always and only when I really, really wanted someone.
You know what I mean. Have you ever felt that the only women who want you are the ones you don't want? I got that all the time. It was relentless. It cut me up. But I could see that no matter how complex it all seemed, there was some kind of pattern to it. Something that was, at heart, really very simple. It played itself out in infinite ways, but it was always that exact pattern if I wanted someone I'd become a bag of nervous energy and fuck it all up. Something was going on that made all of my best traits into negative things that worked against me. My eloquence became pretentiousness. My confidence became arrogance. My shyness became insecurity. And always it was with the people I wanted the most to connect with.
Honesty. Openness. Being genuine. Self-expression. I talk about these things a lot. But how do you get there? How do you get to a place where all the trappings of the alpha male just fall into place around you?
I think, to be straight with you, that a lot of this comes down to courage. Courage is one of the most attractive qualities that a person can show. Courage is all a person needs to face any situation and bring all the limitless resources of their evolutionary heritage, the limitless resources of their humanity, to bear upon it. But you can't just tell someone that you're brave. You need to be able to demonstrate it. And I guess that's what being genuine is. It's a DHV
, a demonstration of higher value. Or perhaps a DHC. A demonstration of higher courage.
I can put on a facade. I can pretend to be someone I'm not we all can. Everyone has that faculty. And if someone rejects us when we are being fake, they reject the mask we wear. It doesn't really hurt. It doesn't hurt because the rejection isn't a comment on us. It's a comment on the person we're pretending to be. I mean, shit - it still leaves you lonely and alone. But it doesn't cut you, because whatever it is that that person is cutting, it has nothing to do with you.
If you put yourself out there if you put your SELF out there you throw it to the lions. People will try to bite chunks out of you, for reasons of their own. People will test you, people will attack you. And they're not attacking a mask you've built, they're attacking your personality itself. If you're prepared to put yourself out there in the first place, you can show that you have the courage to do that. You demonstrate it. It is undeniable. You are not telling people you are brave. You are showing that you have valor.
But it's not enough just to put yourself out there. If you allow your personality to be chewed up, if you take the shit that is thrown at you to heart, then you are showing that your courage is not backed up by strength. It's a bit like charging a machine gun nest armed with a rusty spoon and a jar of jam. That's not brave. That's reckless. Reckless and stupid. I mean, sure, you might fluke a one-in-a-million chance and disembowel the Nazis who've been distracted by a consignment of sauerkraut and some Scheize porn. Odds are you'll get cut down like wheat.
Arm yourself, and armour yourself.
Arm yourself with skills of expression. Develop them through daring and experimentation. Learn to use your language and your body to express the shit you have inside yourself like you'd learn to play a musical instrument. Push yourself as hard as you want to. It's not a race. Arm yourself with skill.
Armour yourself with internal strength. The first thing you need to cultivate is an attitude of not giving a fuck. Not giving a fuck about the opinions that others hold about your personality. This is simple. It's not easy, but it is simple. All you really need to do is recognize the essential and fallible humanity of the people you want to connect with. This is pivotal. It's so important that I'm going to write it again, and in capitals.
RECOGNIZE THE ESSENTIAL AND FALLIBLE HUMANITY OF THE PEOPLE YOU WANT TO CONNECT WITH.
This doesn't just go for women you want. It goes for your heroes, for the men you look up to. For the people you want with all your heart to link up with and learn from. For your boss at work. For the guy across the desk from you in the interview. The DJ at the club. Your best friend, the one who betrayed you. Your parents. Your enemies. Everyone.
And why should you recognize this? It's very simple. Sure, you should do it because you'll be able to connect with them. Sure, you should give it a go because you'll be able to forgive the people who've hurt you. Sure, you'll be able to heal yourself and become stronger. Sure, you'll have status. Sure, you'll have value. Sure, you'll have power. Sure, the women in your life will connect with you to a depth that you've never experienced before, sure they'll want you, and their attraction for you will arise and accelerate at a rate you've never seen before.
But that's not why you should recognize it. All these things are red herrings. If you chase any of them, you'll never find them. You'll just fuck yourself up and never get there. You should recognize it for the simple and awesome reason that it is, quite simply, true.
The people you want to connect with are essentially and fallibly human. They have to be. It is in their nature so to be. It is the way of things. They are essentially and fallibly human.
Just like you. Just like me.
And once you see that, once you understand that it just is the truth about the world in which we live, you can throw your personality into the lions den knowing that the lions which will ravage it have no deeper or more perfect understanding of the world than anyone else. They are all just people. No matter what they look like. No matter their beauty, or confidence, or the brilliance of their achievements.
Oh, and the flip side of the coin is even better. It's this. They are not worth less because they are essentially and fallibly human. They're worth more. Much more. Because what is beautiful about a person is their personality. And it is beautiful. More beautiful, more inspiring and more wonderful than anything else I can imagine existing. It is a wonderful thing that the truth about who we are is so amazing, and so beautiful.
It is the most amazing thing about the world, I think, that we humans actually are, despite all the horror and all the shit we create and wallow in, creatures of limitless complexity and wonder. It makes me smile. It makes me impatient to wake and face another day. It sounds intense, I know. And it can be. It can blow you away. But it's not too much to handle. We're programmed by evolution to be able to take this all in stride.
But it makes the striding worthwhile. And for that, I am, and will always remain, thankful.

This is rule number one in the my rule of survival with the opposite sex (women).
This relationship stuff can be pretty tricky for anyone who hasn't learned the rules. I know many a guy who has been married all their lives and end up getting the big divorce which usually happens to about 50% of every person on earth. If these old guys get lucky enough to meet a new hot sweetie, they react no differently than a young teenage guy in love and the results can be devastating. This falling in love stuff can put a guy on his ass emotionally and financially. We are programmed by nature to fall in love for the purposes of raising our children. Being in love to a point is fine if you can keep your senses. The problem is most men lose it. At that point the I can't do anything to help you. At that point you are dead in the water, my friend!
The in-experienced guy doesn't realize how dangerous it can be to his personal well being and happiness if she begins to set the rules. Pay careful attention as to who is setting the rules or your ass will be grass and I don't say that lightly.
Personally, I have many women so I literally don't have time to get into a relationship. I do have a darling model girlfriend that I treat like a girlfriend when I have the time and I do love her, but I will not let her monopolize my time or take over my life. Of course, I run the risk of losing her if I do not show her enough attention.

Once you meet your hot babe, don't see her everyday or you will surrender your life to her and that is not the wussie kind of life that I think you want. No matter how hot she is or how much you like her or love her, keep her at a distance if you want to maintain your status as a player. Believe me, having many different little hotties is a mind boggling, exotic experience. Girlfriend after girlfriend after girlfriend is a life to die for in my opinion.
If you are a typical loser you will allow her to control you. If you don't take control of the relationship, she is going to do it, because somebody has got to do it! If you don't want to take the ball and run with it, she will damn well run with your balls! She will resort to jealous outbursts, she will lay down the law, no other chicks, and she will cut you off from sex. She has been programmed by society and nature to take you out of the game. You damn well better not let her do it. That is definitely not for me.
You can see your special girlfriend regularly, which is ok, if you have shown her who is boss. Be aware you always have to clean up your bachelor pad after she leaves. Girls mark their territory by leaving behind hair, earrings, panties, etc.
When questions like "do you see other women" come up, I always deny it. There are guys who like the honest approach. Maybe that works too but I don't believe that sits well with hot babes to put other women in their face unless you are setting up threesomes which I highly recommend. Most women are bi-sexual, they just don't know it.
I live by the my rule. Simply put, where women are concerned it is my way or the highway. You need to understand that as a player playboy, all women will not accept your playing around and you will lose a few girlfriends from time to time. I am like the President of a country and a few soldiers are dispensable and replaceable. Most men treat a hot babe like she is the only one on the planet. To me they are all getting older and there is always a hotter younger one just around the corner. To be a successful womanizer this is the attitude you have to have. However, that doesn't give you a license to treat her like shit, you have to treat her with respect and love. She has to know that she is special, but replaceable. Women cling to a man with the rock star attitude. You have to have the attitude that says I am the prize and I damn well know it.
I believe in the reward/punishment program. If she brings another girl into your bed, reward her. If she tries to powerhouse you in any way punish her by not seeing her.
Once in a while I reward my perfect ladies by a vacation on the beach for a weekend including the candlelight dinner, cuddling and hot sex. Girls love adventure and romance but if you give a girl this kind of treatment for controlling your life and making your life a living Hell you are the wussie who has been warned. Throw the Elvis Preston King book into the fireplace and toss yourself in while you are at it because you are destined to a life of living Hell any way you slice it.
Elvis rule number 2: always pick up new girls everyday of your life. Avoid the agony of a one woman (also known as "one-it-is".)
The majority of the men of the world lack the skills to seduce women on a high level and this neediness puts their head on the chopping block.
Remember: women sooner or later despise the wussie that they can control and they will go looking for a real man. If you place women at the center of your life, you are giving them unbelievable power, and control. If your whole life is built around just one or two girlfriends, then if they leave you on your ass, your whole life crumbles.
My way is to develop a playboy lifestyle that allows tons of women to chase you. This is not to say that you do not have to make the initial approach, YOU DO. Hit on girls everyday of your life if you want to have girlfriends like a rock star.
Always remember "Show Her who is Boss or She Will Show YOU Who is Boss."

In my opinion, this guy Michael who runs the site thedatingwizard.com is the only guy to really cough up the truth, I've been following him ever since I read about him in the Toronto Sun several years ago. This is the only guy who gave me the real goods and the community the real goods - that women are not all club sluts, that the stuff that works on club sluts really is not going to work on regular women, and that it's rather easy for a guy with ok looks to get laid by these girls. Also, he's the only guy to really get down to the more advanced levels that for some reason the other commercial guys ignore.
Absolutely no one else speaks about this, and no one else has the legitimacy, they are too busy pouring out product after product.
The first time in years that I finally see something from Michael again on your letter, and he gets the lowest rating of anyone at your seminar. I'm really curious, because if he is the worst guy at the seminar, and some of those other guys are getting better reviews, something is wrong in paradise, and you know what I mean.
Cliff's Comment: Last year Juggler spoke but didn't want to be filmed. I had feedback that was probably 50% said they thought he was terrible and 50% thought he was the best speaker of the weekend. In fact, I heard from people who had diametrically opposed views of each of the speakers. One guy liked this guy, the next thought he had nothing to offer. It was really strange. Guys are always asking me who I recommend, who's the best, etc. I always tell them that what they need to do is look into a number of the guys out there and find who they connect with. There are guys who totally love Mystery and others who find his stuff too complicated with all those stages (A1, A2, etc.). You need to find who you feel comfortable with and who's words resonate with you. The fact that this reviewer (who really didn't say anything negative about Michael at all) happened to relate more to the way that some of the other presenters came across is just his opinion and has no real bearing on the value of Michael's work or anyone else's for that matter.

I went out today to get a greasy burger from a local dive. Today, it was packed... but one person stood out. A lithe blonde who resembled Britney Spears in her early days. She was wearing a belly shirt that showed her well defined abs and more. She was standing at the pick-up window holding two carry-out bags and apparently waiting for one or more additional bags. Every guy in the place was pretending not to look at her -- I looked her in the eye, then after placing my order sat in the chair closest to where she was standing. I opened with, "Damn baby, you must be hungry. How many burgers can you eat?" She laughed and explained she worked at the pool hall down the road and was picking up for the other girls working there. I asked her name (Mandy) and told her mine -- I asked if she would personally serve me a beer if I dropped by. She replied, "I wish I could work the bar... but you have to be over 21 to serve alcohol." The woman behind the counter handed Mandy her third carry out bag and she smiled at me and mentioned I should drop by. I tried to figure *exactly* how old was she? She let on she was under 21... but how far under? Chances are she could be 19 or 20... which I could get away with. But there is also the strong likelihood that she could be 17... or possibly younger. Today, I wasn't in the mood to visit a pool hall on the "bad" side of town to find out. I might change my mind later though... she was a definite HB15½.

Members meet twice weekly with approximately 200+ registered members. Currently run mini study groups on Mystery Method, Gunwitch Method, Juggler, SS. We usually meet out in the field and streets so there is plenty of field practice. Our Sarge-Fest is a great learning night for newbies where some of Australias best PUA coach you to improve your game. We also organize other activities such as Salsa dance nights for our members and we encourage our members to contribute back to the community to help it grow. New Dating/Seduction Seminars & Workshop in Montreal by DOC!
Doc, who many of you know from his great interview here last time and all too rare but outstanding posts on this list, on Mystery's Lounge, and the Montreal Lair, is bringing his seminars and speed dating events to Montreal. Previously they were mainly held in Toronto as part of the Learning Annex, Doc is now setting it up here and plans to hold events on a monthly basis.

The events are Dating Secrets for Women, a 3 Hour seminar (cost $50) and Dating Secrets for Guys; a Guide to The Art of Dating (also 3 hours and $50). The fall calendar has a full weekend seminar and makeover. He also has 3 new books coming out this fall under the SETNA Dating Manual Series. Volume I (to be released this week) deals with the psychology of attraction, first impressions, and working on your inner game, Volume II (coming in September) deals with tactics and strategies to go from meeting her to dating her, and Volume III will deal with Managing Relationships.
Full-weekend Dating Makeover workshops will be offered soon (including a half day with a personal stylist, video tape analysis of body language, and live practice sessions with dating coaches beautiful women who will give the guys on the spot feedback on how they come across and what to improve). If you are opening groups (or sets: 2-sets, 3-sets, mixed sets, etc) of people with the 3 second rule by stacking indirect openers (including false opinion openers), false time constraining (discovered by Style), demonstrating a higher value to your romantic interest’s peer group with high octane DHVs while she obliquely observes (locking her into her own set with a prop), and simultaneously performing false disqualifiers (which include negs) on her with the intension of disarming her peergroup and then isolating her to rebuild her self-esteem once you have enough IOIs (indicators of interest) so you may share in a comfort and trust building effort and then build in a jealousy subplot to solidify her attraction for you, you are using The Mystery Method.
If instead you are only approaching women who are alone, you are greatly limiting your options and quite likely alienating your target's friends. Do you want a lonely woman (why is she lonely?) or a woman who already has a healthy social lfe? Truth is, healthy women have healthy relationships ... sometimes good friendships with guys. Like it or not, you will have to meet these women with men in her group.

this past weekend I made the trek from Toronto to Ottawa to take part in Maverick and Orleans workshop. I can only describe this thing in one word: INSANE.
I always have great weekend and I never got into the game to have more fun just to improve my ability to pick up, but this weekend was the most fun I have had in years.
It started off on Friday afternoon and we got together and talked about our game and what we wanted to improve and figured out where were wanted to be at the end of the weekend. We spent a lot of time going over the basics and the groundwork and getting our material ready for the night.
We left to get a late lunch/ early dinner after that and I drove over with Orleans to the Hard Rock in the market. By the time we got there Maverick and another guy taking the workshop were already there, and so was the waitress ;). She was standing there already and blushing and laughing and having a great time talking to Maverick. I was shocked because he could only have been there for about 2 minutes and then I knew for sure that these guys were the real deal. BTW this waitress ended up (totally uninvited) grabbing a chair and sitting down with us for about 15 minutes, she was just digging the vibe.
We went out that night and I have to admit I was feeling really nervous about going out and doing this in front of people. Mav and Orleans made me feel comfortable and relaxed before I went out that and I was really happy with the amount of pressure they put on me. It was sort of a gentle push instead of being forced into anything and they never made me feel uncomfortable.
I'm not going to get into every set but just let me say this:
I STRUCK OUT big time on most of my sets on friday night but at no point did I feel awkward about it. sets would be going ok but never very well until Orleans or Maverick would come by and say something as they passed to let me know what I needed to change or what I was doing wrong and then PRESTO the set would be better. Still that night, I didn't have a lot of success but I was really starting to understand WHY.
(As an aside, the other guy we were with opened a set that I winged for him and this chick was SO into him she took him to the couch, made out with him and was STRADDLING him and grinding into him. It was so out of control the bouncer had to tell them to take it easy because it was too much for the bar).
Then Saturday we got together and talked about what we needed to improve and they gave us a ton of tips. We went out for some day game which terrified me because I've never done it before but it was actually not so bad and I enjoyed it a lot by the time the end of the day rolled around. We also went shopping for clothes (great place to sarge) and it was cool to get some advice from some guys who really know how to dress other people.
Saturday night came and AGAIN I'm not going to get into every set but let me say this:
MAGIC. Everything seemed to flow really really well. I could open without concern. This was no longer a chore to anymore. I wasn't going out to PICK UP, I was going out to meet some chicks and have a REALLY good time. Every set I opened was receptive and not every set went well but I would say 50% of them were awesome. I do have gf so what I'm allowed to do is limited but I KNOW I could have made out with at least 2 different chicks that night and number closed at least one more.
I would still make mistakes and again these guys would bust in and fire out a little comment to me, I would fix it, and I would be back on my way to picking up. The best part was when a set WASN'T going well, e
