I just received a mailing from Dr. Alex's list that briefly mentioned

Since I attended the first and only previous workshop he's done in June 2006, I thought I'd finally write up a short review of it for the benefit of the community...
Dr. Alex's Transformation Weekend was the most empowering live training of any kind that I have attended. The Tao of Dating weekend surpassed workshops and bootcamps by three of the biggest names in the pickup and seduction business, plus another four weekend workshops that I've attended on NLP and hypnosis.
What distinguishes Dr. Alex from other major presenters are his deep insights, emphasis on teachings firmly grounded on ancient wisdom or modern science, world-class instruction and use of hypnotic induction to supercharge your attitudes and beliefs.

I've been in the game since 1998, and have studied everything from Speed Seduction to David D to Mystery to PU101 to Juggler to Annihilation Method. I think that the guru master is right on when he said that changing the frame is what eliminates approach anxiety. After you have done a bunch of approaches, of course, and gotten out of your comfort zone. But getting out of your comfort zone and approaching alone won't eliminate your approach anxiety. I am sure there are very few guys (if any) with more experience and approaches under their belt than Mystery. However I heard him say once that he always felt anxiety before approaching. The point I am making is that you might be extremely successful with women and still have approach anxiety because you are coming from a different frame (seduce her, get your validation, prove that you can do it, etc.). She is, according to this frame, someone you ALREADY WANT. In other words, you ALREADY ACCEPTED HER and you are going to prove to herself (and yourself) that you have the "SKILL" to do it. That is what causes the anxiety, whether you have the SKILL or not is irrelevant when it comes to feeling the anxiety. If, on the other hand, you have the frame of QUALIFY HER, you won't feel the anxiety because YOU HAVE NOT ACCEPTED HER YET, SO SHE CAN NOT REJECT YOU. (SHE CAN NOT REJECT SOMEBODY WHO HAS NOT ACCEPTED HER.)
What eliminates the fear in this area and every area is NOT HAVING ANYTHING TO LOSE. Whatever happens, you are OK with it. Of course, you take action and push your comfort zone but if you come from this frame IT will be way more easy. When you are INDIFFERENT, you have nothing to lose. When you DON'T ACCEPT HER (until she proves her worth to you), you have nothing to lose. You DON'T ADORE HER; how can you adore somebody you DON'T EVEN KNOW? You might be a little curious about her, but that's all, at least for now. So you have nothing to lose. This way you feel all the power, you fall in love with yourself and you attract women EFFORTLESSLY. Of course, this is not the only way to be successful with women but it is the most powerful, in my opinion.
What many gurus have done, in my opinion, is just find the things that work. They know how to create attraction, etc., but they are coming from the same old frame of trying to please women. They just don't do it by buying dinners and sending flowers everyday, they do things that work better but they still come from the frame of getting her approval and validation.
Real power and success comes from the other frame he and others have talked about.

When you start to learn more about any subject you will find more nuance. This is why a consultant's favourite answer is "it depends...".
So if you ask me whether going out partying, trying to find One Night Stands is conducive to game, my answer would be "it depends."
Chances are you have a preference for girls who are feminine. Hot chicks. Sure, you like the tom-boy and party chicks. The girls you can play fight with... but are those the women you would M-word?
Would you like to find a feminine female? Do you think she would go drinking on a Wednesday night trying to score some man-meat? Guess not.
What we are attracted to is what opposes us.
Really think about this for a second.
Are you a manly man? Are you a feminine male? Are you more neutral (about 10% are) ?
How do you know if you are masculine or feminine?
Tony Robbins - my Guru ; ) - says that you can find out by asking yourself "in essence, when I'm having sex, do I like to take or be taken?"
If you want to get a feminine women, your main goal is to be a manly man. Would you agree that's what she's gonna be attracted to?
What is your goal?
When you're entertaining girls, trying to connect to their deep feelings by being sensitive and shit, when you're telling them about your little sister - you get the point - this is NOT helping you find that passion with a feminine girl.
Passion can only exist over a long period when there is tension.
Sure, it helps that you're the same in some ways. This is why PUA's are using these techniques so successfully. Instead of being totally the same, there is a balance that leans slightly to the masculine side.
And it's not a bad thing when you ARE this way. When you become more of a balanced person, you will feel better, more loving and emotionally healthy. Becoming more centered IS NOT a step backwards.
Am I pushing it when I state that you are in this to get better at picking up women though? Especially in the beginning of your journey you should focus on being masculine. More so because most guys in the community were raised by their mothers and lean towards the feminine side.
How to Develop you Masculine Energy
It would be easy to list a bunch of 'masculine' stuff here. Poker, drinking, porn and cars. Right?
Wrong.
In essence, the masculine energy is focus. It is the search for freedom. It is competition.
It IS your life long MISSION. Not completing it per se; it is pursuing your mission in life. This is why we make heroes of men who conquer. This is why you watch sports.
This is, while resenting it by logic, a women will respect a man who chases his dreams with focus. He is masculine.

'THE MARRIAGE SHIFT': THE IMPORTANCE OF DETECTING A WOMAN'S SELF-ESTEEM LEVEL & THREE WAYS TO DO IT
A letter one of you sent had a very interesting question about relationships. Now, I understand that I'm the dating guy and that relationships are not the mainstay of my work.
However, if what I'm teaching you in The Tao of Dating is effective at all, sooner or later one of these girls you like is going to like you back, and you're going to end up with a (gasp!) relationship. So listen up to what Cory is saying:

To answer your question:
The self-love question is essential. Let's talk about the 'self-concept'. Basically, our self-concept encompasses all our beliefs and judgments about ourselves. The self-concept attempts to satisfy two motives simultaneously: self-enhancement and self-consistency.
Generally, people like things that give them self-enhancement (eg. compliments). However, if you don't like yourself, then the self-enhancement runs into the self-consistency requirement (eg. "why does he like me when I'm clearly not deserving?").
In the beginning of a relationship, the self-enhancement motive is dominant. But as a relationship becomes longer term, the self-consistency motive starts to dominate, and what you get is the partner with low self-esteem thinking that the other partner is insincere, lying and just buttering her (or him) up.
And then she breaks up with you. Basically because you were being a sincere, genuine, complimentary kinda guy. (This also explains why some women gravitate again and again towards jerks -- because the jerk is fulfilling her self-consistency requirement *exactly*. Rather unfortunate.)
This is so prevalent, it even has a name -- 'the marriage shift'. At the beginning, things are hunky-dory, but then it all goes to pot.
(Note: You've probably figured out that you don't need to get married to experience the marriage shift. Going out with a girl for a month or two is sometimes all it takes to start seeing this happen.)
So, short answer: healthy self-esteem, or self-love, is key to successful long-term relationships.
Is there something you can do about this? Well, yes and no.
Yes, in the sense that you can pick from the outset someone who already has healthy self-esteem. That way the marriage shift problem doesn't have a chance to come up.
It's *possible* for a person, through sheer force of positive reinforcement and relentless love from a partner, to shift her (or his) self-concept to accommodate that love.
Possible, but not probable.
Which brings me to one of my favorite sayings in all of dating and relationships (and many other areas of life):
"Those who are skillful persuade. Experts sort."
What am I talking about here?
The idea is that a lot of the art of relationship comes down to sorting for the right person. And when you get really, really good at that, you can sort, or select, for what you're looking from the smallest of indicators.
Most men are experts at sorting based on appearance: hair color, physique, complexion, gait, dancing ability, etc., etc.
One look and you know exactly whether a relationship can even start with a given woman, and if it does, how long it will last.
Some guys make the mistake of going for someone who isn't their type, and then a few months down the road grudgingly admit to themselves that maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all.
There's a basis for this in the Tao. Finding the person who's already right for you is the path of least resistance.
Chances are better that things will just flow with this person. Trying to 'fix' someone so she (or he) is right for you is like swimming upstream -- against the Tao.
But what about intangible (or less tangible) things? Like self-esteem, kindness, extroversion, adventurousness? How do you evaluate those, my friend?
Well, you're surprisingly good at those, too. You just don't know it yet. In fact, qualities like kindness in a mate are so essential to survival that evolution has kindness detectors built into your brain. Really.
Most of the time, all you have to do is listen to your intuition when it says "Dude -- she just treated the wait staff poorly. Danger Will Robinson!"
But enough teasing. We're dealing with self-esteem in this article, so let's talk about that. Here are some ways you can detect whether a woman has decent self-esteem *before* you dive into a serious relationship with her:
1) Give her a compliment -- a genuine one preferably. How does she respond? Many people tend to be self-effacing when complimented, which is normal. But does she go out of her way to deflect the compliment and deflate herself? If so, beware. On the other hand if she says "Thank you" with a smile, or just simply returns the compliment, it's a good sign.
2) How does she treat other people? She may be treating you nicely, because we usually put our best foot forward at the outset of a relationship. But how about the rest of the world? Generally people treat others with the same degree of respect they have for themselves (think about that one for a sec). So if she's mean to others, treats others like dirt and is generally unreasonable and demanding, chances are she thinks that's the kind of treatment she deserves herself as well. Be very, very wary of such a companion.
3) Is her speech mostly positive or negative? Is the glass half full or half empty? Are her days a litany of disaster and conspiracy against her happiness? Is she inordinately fond of words like can't, won't, didn't, isn't going to, shouldn't, etc., etc.? Once again, we tend to see the world not as it is but as we are. Beware.
In the absence of extended contact, these three clues should keep you in good stead. That's the kind of teaching I like to conduct in all my seminars: tools you can use IMMEDIATELY to enhance your fulfillment and success in life.

New Dating/Seduction Seminars & Workshop in Montreal by DOC!
Doc, who many of you know from his great interview here last time and all too rare but outstanding posts on this list, on Mystery's Lounge, and the Montreal Lair, is bringing his seminars and speed dating events to Montreal. Previously they were mainly held in Toronto as part of the Learning Annex, Doc is now setting it up here and plans to hold events on a monthly basis.

The events are Dating Secrets for Women, a 3 Hour seminar (cost $50) and Dating Secrets for Guys; a Guide to The Art of Dating (also 3 hours and $50). The fall calendar has a full weekend seminar and makeover. He also has 3 new books coming out this fall under the SETNA Dating Manual Series. Volume I (to be released this week) deals with the psychology of attraction, first impressions, and working on your inner game, Volume II (coming in September) deals with tactics and strategies to go from meeting her to dating her, and Volume III will deal with Managing Relationships.
Full-weekend Dating Makeover workshops will be offered soon (including a half day with a personal stylist, video tape analysis of body language, and live practice sessions with dating coaches beautiful women who will give the guys on the spot feedback on how they come across and what to improve). If there is a group of 10 or more guys interested in a seminar (or 5 guys for a workshop, he would consider making a special trip to their city).

If you are opening groups (or sets: 2-sets, 3-sets, mixed sets, etc) of people with the 3 second rule by stacking indirect openers (including false opinion openers), false time constraining (discovered by Style), demonstrating a higher value to your romantic interest’s peer group with high octane DHVs while she obliquely observes (locking her into her own set with a prop), and simultaneously performing false disqualifiers (which include negs) on her with the intension of disarming her peergroup and then isolating her to rebuild her self-esteem once you have enough IOIs (indicators of interest) so you may share in a comfort and trust building effort and then build in a jealousy subplot to solidify her attraction for you, you are using The Mystery Method.
If instead you are only approaching women who are alone, you are greatly limiting your options and quite likely alienating your target's friends.
