Today’s topic is one that I have been kicking around in my mind for a long time. And no worries, it’s a purely subjective concept so it’s not like I’m going to go “Chris Benoit” on anyone around here. But it’s like this. By now, most of you all who are reading this (unless perhaps you just now are showing up, in which case welcome) fully realize that needy, wimpy “Nice Guys” get nowhere with women by supplicating, capitulating and otherwise fulfilling upon various other big words with small meanings.
Women dread the insincerity and manipulative tactics involved like Emily’s dog Cosmo The Hairless Terrier dreads sunburn. And just like Cosmo, guys who regularly do such silly stuff have no game whatsoever. Hell, they may as well spin around three or four times “turbo barking” like he does. Even when Gracie Girl (terrier hottie) is in “heat”, the only female ever even remotely impressed by such a ludicrous and decidedly useless display appears to be my seven-year-old daughter.
On the flip side you have the “Bad Boys”, the garden variety of which are collectively known as “Idiot/Jerks” around these parts. Yeppers, pardner. Some guys appear to be successful at attracting some women by ignoring and/or mistreating them. But as we have also learned, the particularly sharp women won’t put up with that for long either. Besides, misogynistic guys attract man-haters like…well…like lunchtime attracts Cosmo. And that friends and neighbors is the quintessential “lose/lose” for “losers/losers”.

So here we go. “Mr. Nice Guy” decides he’s got to be “The Bad Boy” to get the girl. Have you ever seen a girly-man kicking tires on a Harley? It ain’t pretty. And it’s even uglier when he BUYS the thing. Pigs and lipstick all over again. If you are manipulative and needy when you are “Nice” about it, nothing changes when you’re “Not Nice” about it. Somewhere, a particularly first-class woman is getting her hands on this article and agreeing with me: this picture is even more pathetic than the “Nice Guy” was.
Simply put, if there ever was a shred of hope with the woman this guy is so desperate to earn the attention of, it just sprouted wings. Majorly.
And elsewhere, there are at times “I/J” types who realize in a moment of sweet epiphany that they’ve pushed too hard. The woman has had enough, and has been driven to the edge of both sanity and dignity. She has experienced the great awakening of Deserving What She Wants and will not tolerate the mistreatment any longer. Good for her. And what does the “I/J” guy do? He decides it’s time to make an SOS call to the flower shop desperately hoping that two dozen (in red, with “baby’s breath”, etc.) is enough. Time to “kiss up” and “make nice”. Yeah, whatever. Let's get a show of hands among ladies sometime to see who has ever launched a “special delivery” like that directly into the can. Sorry, guys. Once again, albeit in an alternate universe, you’ve just sealed your certain doom as securely as “Harley Mounted Milquetoast Boy” did.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire. As if the first infraction wasn’t heinous enough, dude…you just had to yank the whole charade into full-on DEFCON 1, didn’t you? Counter failure of one extreme by swinging clear across to the other…and call it “Double-Barreled Disaster”. If you manage to walk away from this one, it’ll be bowlegged.
For some of you, what you are reading registers as first-hand experience. Others of you may be contemplating (or even attempting) such “reform” in your life.
How did we get here? Who decided that guys have to be caricatures of one extreme or the other?
In the end, I don’t really care how we got here any more than Cosmo cares what brand of beer I pour in his doggy dish. All I care about is getting out.
Here’s an original idea: How about being a GOOD MAN?
Maybe you’ve met him. Unashamedly masculine. Confident. Respects himself and appreciates women. Strong character. Fearless but not foolish. Irresistibly sexual without forcing the issue. Your newsletter gives great insights in preparation and initial phases of courting. Some tips would be helpful when a relationship is in Gear 3 and 4 and the woman starts challenging the guy by saying her needs are different now and starts coming up with lots of new stuff which a guy has to deal with. The guy is being totally committed, yet he realizes that the initial courting and relationship mode are very different realities. Any tips on this particular phase? Also any suggestions on when things sometimes start to get out of hand, where attraction is draining fast like a low charged battery, you recognize it yet you don't want to totally pull the plug, you want to try to see if you can recharge her attraction? Also what about situations where there has been quite a big investment of emotions and then the woman pulls the plug? You miss the relationship but how do you get back into the groove without too much emotional knocks to yourself?
It would help to discuss frames where one has a girl friend and one wants to strengthen the relationship instead of ejecting at the initial sign of an argument (arguments are inevitable). A lot of stuff which folks talk about C&F, DHV, etc. don't go beyond the first few weeks or months. After that, the woman starts interrogating the guy and pummeling him on so many levels that if he is fake in any way, he'll start losing the appeal. Unless a guy has the foundation blocks to handle this stuff, a lot of things the community talks about do not really equip guys to take things to the next level. The woman soon gets bored with it. Especially if she is not the 19 year old starry-eyed, giggly teenage type BUT is one of the those who is a relationship candidate in every sense and she in turn expects a guy who is considerate, genuine to the core and has the tenacity to stay through her swings in the medium to long term, not just hiding his insecurities with all the recently learned techniques and spilling the canned stuff forever and with no ammunition to go beyond 12 months with any woman.
She can detect a phony from the real deal miles away. If she didn't see it right away, she will soon enough.
Clifford's Comments: While I tend to have my own relationship management ways, which involve always "giving a woman all the space she doesn't want" and "a woman isn't happy unless she's (at least a little) unhappy", I've been watching Steve Piccus with his girlfriends and learning that, properly paced and done with honesty, consistency and zero tolerance for women who start to become Completely Useless Never Trusted Skanks (note the initials) and coming to understand that women desperately want to find a man who is appropriately strong and dominant. His view is that all women want and need this, and he told me that women tell him that he is seen as an oak in a forest of pines. This is pretty radical stuff but I am seeing how he handles things - he's phenomenally razor sharp catching any remarks or behaviour that is disrespectful, implicitly condescending, or that tries to nudge the balance of power in the woman's direction. The key is that you have to be ready to walk away at any time whenever such unacceptable behaviour shows itself, contrary to your comments about trying to stick around and deal with rough moments. All of this to say that I very much agree that we need some real world relationship handling advice here and I have plans for this with all the new developments that are happening with Cliff's List. But I definitely encourage anyone reading this to send in their comments on relationship management, especially those that are on the radical but effective side (those who base their "systems" on lying or other disingenuous methods are not encouraged to respond).

I think the being yourself issue is not complicated or contradictory at all . In fact, it is as simple as this: are your words or actions oriented towards getting a woman's approval? Then you are NOT being yourself . You are NOT centered if that is the case. You are just a facade.
Your facade can take different forms:,
- Nice guy
- "pick up artist"/entertainer
- jerk/bad boy, etc.
If you use any of the above strategies to get a woman's approval, then you are NOT being yourself. IF on the other hand you are any of the above WITHOUT CARING if the woman approves or disapproves of you, then you ARE being yourself.
Many people get to the community and they go from Super Nice Guys to the other extreme. From one facade to another facade.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with being nice as long as you don't do it to get a woman's approval. In fact, people who come across as nice, unattractive guys that happens to them because they are NOT AUTHENTICALLY nice, it is just a facade they use to manipulate women and get their approval.
If you are authentically nice, you can be attractive (of course you WON'T OVERDO it because you are NOT using being nice as a tool to manipulate women).
(And you won't put up with their s... either, you are nice as long as they are nice.)
When a woman says "Be Yourself," what she means is 'do whatever you want to do without trying to IMPRESS OTHERS or GET THE APPROVAL OF OTHERS.

Understanding What Routines Are
One of the most debated issues in the dating circles is the issue of routines. I am constantly asked this question as well, and I wanted to clear up some general misconceptions. This is a generally wildly misunderstood concept, and more importantly, many times it’s taught the wrong way to a lot of guys.
This ends up hurting guys in attracting women in the long term.
It’s about the issue of ROUTINES. More specifically, it’s about using Routines to pick up women.
This repeated question rehashes old debates due to its vague nature. Before you can begin to argue about routines, you have to first define what you mean by this word.
Once upon a time, everyone seemed to have a canned script. Every single pickup in the “Seduction Community” followed a memorized speech for the most part.
This was described by Neil Strauss in his book. It’d resemble something like this:
Opener-80's dogs,
Best friends' test,
Xyz story,
DHV, (or neg of your choice if that was your thing)
Story # 2,
If you’re still unfamiliar with what I am describing, here is the deal:
Guys would memorize a script verbatim and repeat the same thing to every single girl they came across (or every single group of women).
A guy would approach 10 girls in a bar and run the exact same script to each single girl.
Most of these routines were things guys read on the Internet and started spewing off, and eventually, a lot of guys moved away from that. Attracting women is about attitude and subtext more so than text and conversational threads. Many of us quickly figured that out and started focusing on the subtext of the interaction.
What do you convey during your conversational threads? That is the key question. Thus, as some point, you stop caring about the topics and start focusing more on having a good time.
We have to draw a line as to what defines a routine. To me, routines are memorized canned scripts that you repeat over and over.
But then what about Personal Repetition of favorite gestures, stories, jokes, and mannerisms?
These are all things we develop which are personal to us. Now, you could label these routines but I do believe there must exist a distinction between personal stories and “Memorized Scripts read over the Internet.”
Based on what we do, who we look like, our personalities, who we are, and our value filters, we all develop personal habits. It’s like if you hear the following often enough, “Hey!! Whoa! You know you look like Sylvester Stallone???” You are going to develop a few responses that will be repeated quite often when that situation presents itself.
Similarly, we all have certain facial gestures, smirks, and stories that are unique to us. We tend to repeat these because they are habits based on positive reinforcement. A lot of times, these stories are fueled by our beliefs and values. One of my friends has a rather poetic flowery-language style of talking to women. It resembles something out of a romance novel.
It sounds something along the lines of, “Her eyes glisten under the moonlight while cool wind glides on the surface of her skin.” Truth be told, I couldn’t even say that without having tears from laughing too hard. However, it works for him because it’s CONGRUENT with his persona.
A good friend of mine, Steve P, has spiritually driven beliefs and related anecdotes. He speaks with a commanding voice and is a great teacher, with a very “In your face” demeanor.
Both of these people have their personal preferred topics they enjoy talking about.
Are these routines? By a literal definition, perhaps they are, as they are repeated often enough. However, these really are their beliefs and this really is who they are.
The mistake a lot of guys make is that they “Borrow” other people’s conversational topics and behavior and try to repeat it verbatim as though it were their own. This normally backfires due to the incongruence. Some guy is saying the words but his personality and style does not match the conversational thread. Women can sense this incongruence very easily.
The reason these conversational topics work for these particular men is because the words match the persona of the person. Congruence in identity is far more vital than any actual words you can speak.
Back to our routines and examples:
I live in California and some people might say we are arrogant about it. So let's say I meet a girl from Detroit (which, between us, really is a dump), and I ask her where she is from. Upon hearing "Detroit", there is a good chance my reply might be, "Oh! Really?? I am sorry." with a smirk (note: A lot of calibration plays into this. Certain personalities can't handle this sort of humor so you stay away from it).
So what happens? Well, if done right, this may get a playful punch in the arm, which I can take a number of ways. If she is offended by it, I have ways of doing a bit of backtracking to lighten her up. So the question becomes: Is this a routine?
It's definitely repetition. I don't ever approach any group of girls thinking this is my plan. If it happens, it happens. You sort of just feel the moment.
These stories aren’t contrived in order to meet women. They are rather personal anecdotes that help convey personality.
I can tell you that I have heard my friend’s hilarious stories of his experience working as a bouncer on a few occasions. Another friend of mine has traveled all around the world and I have heard some of his stories repeated a few times, especially at social gatherings with women around. They weren’t ever part of a canned script but when the conversational topics arose, it was a given that they’d tell these stories.
I am pretty sure I’ll hear some of these same stories again. You’ll notice that a lot of guys who are good story tellers repeat the same stories over and over again. It’s not part of a contrived plan. They enjoy telling these stories and people usually like hearing them. Sometimes, people even ask for them.
“Hey man, tell that story again about that one time where you got lost and peed on a cop car, and they chased you down...” (By the way, I just made that story up.)
The important thing to remember is that these stories can be considered your personal routines, but they are conveying your personality and represent events from your personal life.
Thus, you have to distinguish between someone’s personal life stories and personality-driven traits versus canned scripts read and memorized on Internet chat boards and forums.
As you go through this journey of becoming better and more comfortable in approaching women, you will find that you are developing your own nuances. This means you are developing you and your natural style that is specific to you. You’ll also find yourself telling a lot of stories from your personal life that are unique to your experiences.
Your style will be different than mine, and mine will be different than many of my friends. Why? Because we are all different people with different personalities.
Some of us are sarcastic, and smart asses.
Some of us have a dry humor,
Some of us are practical jokers,
Some of us love very physical type of humor and so forth.
If you encourage your own natural approach, you will cultivate a natural style. This will always be congruent to who you are because it’s well rooted in your personal life stories.
This will in turn, help you ATTRACT And KEEP the women you find desirable. Your stories will convey your personality, and your experiences, and it will always be congruent.

It all starts with a picture, a feeling, an idea of your Ideal Lifestyle.
It's different for everyone and is mostly likely connected with your Purpose. It might be to rise to the ranks of CEO in a certain industry. Or, to be lazy on the beach writing songs and strumming your guitar by the bonfire.
But, whatever your Ideal Lifestyle you won't ever get it until you envision it and cut away all the bullshit. Fiercely. Unapologetically.
Here's the rub. If you don't have a clear idea of what you want, you'll find everybody else more than glad to decide for you.
In fact, for 99% of men that's exactly what happens. They live life with their parent's voices in their heads. They imagine appeasing their woman to avoid her nagging (or outright wrath.) They live how society conditioned them, through the media, through the school system and through Governmental dictates.
They wake up at some point, look around and ask, "What about me?" or "Is this all there is?" It's been called the "Mid-life Crisis" and for the most part made fun of. It shows an accountant getting a Harley and a tattoo.
Or, the sensible father of four running out and getting a two-seater Corvette.
It's been portrayed in other ways, too. Remember Joel Schumacher's movie Falling Down with Michael Douglas?
You can find this masculine outcry in the humor of Maddox's book "The Alphabet of Manliness" and in the crazy adventures of Tucker Max.
And, finally, awesomely portrayed in Chuck Palahniuk's Book, Fight Club.
These are all examples of the masculine force poking through Pop Culture's crazy barrier to make a point.
Here's the point: Any time you distort or try to mass control something as basic as masculinity things are going to get screwy.
We are, by nature, purpose-driven. We are at our best when we focus on something big. We are here to conquer. Not each other, but ourselves. The masculine force seeks to conquer the world as a reflection of himself. This is the Warrior role. Find a purpose, conquer. Then, you are a King.
But, it doesn't end. It's a cycle. Warrior-King over and over again.
If you haven't committed to yourself to do something big with Life, to really go out and create a life and a lifestyle worthy of your highest aspirations then the world (the reflection of yourself) will kick your ass.
You'll become a fat, pale, wimpy reflection of the man you could be. Women will scorn you. People will call you "nice" and then take advantage of you in subtle ways. The whole point is to reconnect you with your inner power so you can dominate again, like you were meant to...

Anyway, having met and hung out with Will many
times in person, he is one of the coolest, most laid
back and funny people I have ever met.
He is also one of the top guys for approaching that
I have ever seen. I have only seen him get a bad
reaction once, and he was going for that on purpose
so that he could turn it around later (which he did

He came to Boston last summer for an event called
the 'Supermodel Tour' and between him and me,
we number closed all the finalists, even though
there was competition there from New England
Patriot football players :-)
Formhandle and I also hung out with him in
Montreal, and to this day keep recalling some of

I dont know if he is still doing private bootcamps,
but a friend of ours here in Boston took one, and
met a girl during the bootcamp that he is still dating

Workshops are 1 on 1 for 3 days.
Each day consists of a 4-hour seminar and 5 hours of active in-field work. Each night you will make 20-30 approaches with your teacher to get field experience. 1 on 1 training makes it possible to answer any questions you might have and cover the most important aspects of the game in detail. Teachings are tailored to your level in the game.

Recently I received an email from Tony, the author of the LayGuide:
Dear LayGuide reader,
Ever since I put LayGuide online in 1999, I have never e-mailed a single LayGuide member about anything. I have now decided to write you my first e-mail, since I think the information I am about to give you is important enough.
A while back I was asked to contribute my best tips to an upcoming book which would feature the best dating advice by experts from around the world. It was devised as a sort of competition between the top players to see, who can dish out the best techniques and strategies. The book is now ready and is called "Instant Attraction" - but instead of telling you that this compilation is the "holey-moley end-all best thing since sliced bread", I am now going to give you my step-by-step BRUTALLY HONEST review of the whole package, the authors it features and what I think of the advice they give.
So here goes.

It certainly took me a while to read and listen through it all. I'll start with the main 430+ page ebook and will tackle the authors one by one in the order in which they are presented in the book.
1. Rion Williams - good general theory, though I would have preferred a bit more practical advice to go with his theories.
2. Marius Panzarella - good advice.
3. Matt Carbone - excellent advice! Good enjoyable writing plus his advice is right on the money. One of the highlights of the package!
4. Mark Geiger - absolutely horrible advice. His suggestions read like a checklist of things to be avoided. At times it felt like the whole thing was written by a woman since only women have been known to give comparably bad dating advice to men (I don't mean to be rude to all the female dating experts out there but unfortunately that has been my experience). Most of the suggestions can be labeled either as "how to be a wussy boyfriend" or "how to be a good husband", however neither have little to do with meeting and attracting women, which should be the focus of this book.
5. Giuseppe Notte - good theory and practical tips. Maybe a bit too many tips on what NOT to do, which is somewhat out of place in a setting where the author has been asked to provide only his very best tips, but solid advice nevertheless.
6. Tony Clink - Well that's me. I participated by contributing 28 of my best tips, most of which are NOT included in LayGuide and which I wrote specifically for this package. I personally think they rock. I hope you like them as well and will find them useful:)
7. Will Hicks - superb advice, he really knows his stuff. Highly recommended, another highlight of the program!
8. Mark J Ryan - good advice, lots of example stories.
9. Elena Petrova - She gives advice on how to date Eastern European and Russian women. At first I was taken aback, since I've never really been comfortable with the idea of dating someone from overseas (I do not believe in long distance relationships), especially from an economically less developed country. Then again, I do live in one of those Eastern European countries myself and date Eastern European women exclusively, so I tried to keep on open mind to see what this author had to say about the issue. To my surprise her advice is very sound and true. If you consider dating Eastern European women a possibility, I would highly recommend the advice. And even if you're not interested in dating women from abroad, there is still a lot of good general theory explaining the dating game in here.
10. Cucan Pemo - starts out with a lot of confusing New Age stuff about Expanding Vortexes of Energy Exchange, Channeling Cosmic Energies, Communicating with the Universe etc. Not my cup of tea really. If it works for some, great. But unless you are a New Age buff, you will find this a frustrating read. Compounding the problem is the fact that the author is a woman and women are notoriously bad at giving dating advice to men. The advice she's giving improves a bit towards the end and she even presents some good general theories here and there, but overall it is a tiresome read.
11. Carlos Xuma (audio program) - At the very beginning he takes solid ideas but seems to present them in a somewhat twisted manner. Things improve though and the latter part of the audio program offers solid, strong and applicable tips. Overall the info is well worth the listen.
And here are the bonus books:
* Giuseppe Notte - good general tips, though some are recycled from the main book and others are actual lovemaking tips, which I think are usually the scope of other kinds of guides, but that's just my personal opinion:)
* Simon Heong - his two bonus books offer good basic info.
* John Alexander - very strong good psychological information. Also good practical tips. Highly recommended, one of the highlights!
* Martin Merrill - good info on humour and making women laugh. He mostly plugs his own book on the subject, but also gives some good tips.
(Also some additional bonus books have been added recently and although I haven't read them yet, judging from the rest of the material I'm assuming they follow the same general theme of good advice).
So overall what do I think of the package? The advice by Matt Carbone, Will Hicks and John Alexander is absolutely top notch. I'd like to think that my tips are some of the best as well:) Also the advice by Mark J Ryan, Carlos Xuma, Giuseppe Notte, Rion Williams and Marius Panzarella is very good and the advice by Martin Merrill, Simon Heong and Elena Petrova is strong. On the flip side Cucan Pemo gives very confusing advice and Mark Geiger's advice reads like a checklist of things to avoid. As you can see though, I think the good far outweighs the bad and the package is definitely worth a download.
